Spring has a tendency to stimulate my creativity, and since I’m a musician I tend to record more music than usual during spring. It’s certainly a wonderful time of productivity. Yesterday, me and my girlfriend (she’s also a musician) recorded a rock n roll-version of the Bloodhound gang hit “The bad touch”. I play the guitar while my girlfriend handles the singing. I let the computer handle the rest of the instruments. Today I’ve been mixing the project and I suspect that the final mix is gonna be pretty damn amazing. Covers are always fun to do and I’m hoping to do a whole record with my own interpretations of hit songs someday in the future. Rock and roll style of course! Maybe next spring! 😉

Now it was a legally awaited debut that night. A DJ/producer who enjoyed meteoritic raise to fame. His real name is Joel Zimmerman, he’s based in Toronto and he has grabbed the attention of DJs and clubbers with series of hot releases included “Jaded, Faxing Berlin” and a brilliant collaboration with Jelo, “The Reward is Cheese”. He’s quickly become headline live, he’s quite a site when you see him perform, because if you haven’t heard about him before, half the set is done inside a giant mouse head. He really is the perfect artist for the download generation. His popularity is based on the word amount generated by his music being transferred around the world. That person is Deadmau5!

The Deadmau5 concert was smashing, he blow place up! It was the “party of the year”. No one can top this for this year, NO ONE! It’s that time of the year when things start to come back together and start venturing out again, missing the dance floor. And it was perfect timing when Deadmau5 played. I will never forget this. The best feeling a ever I had so far.

It’s such a beautiful day! All I want to do is enjoy the sun every last second of it. The sun made me fall asleep for a bit and it was good! I have been starting to listen to new music lately and so far I just love it. Nothing beats it with this nice weather and good music, such a nice combination. Of course a nice ice cold beer would spice it up to the max. I will have to take one very soon!
This is my favorite part. A DJ/producer from Toronto in Canada is coming to Stockholm. He’s name is Joel Zimmerman, but as a music star we call him Deadmau5! He is absolutely one of my favorite DJ/producer of all-time. He really inspires me to start becoming a DJ myself. I can never, never ever stop loving him and his work. He will be playing at a club called “Berns” tomorrow and I cannot wait for it! I will have to tell you more after Deadmau5’s concert! LATERS!

So this really sucks, it is raining today, during my holiday. Well I guess it’s no surprise that it is raining, but why during at my holiday?! Some of people went back to Stockholm while the rest of us planned to stay and hoping that it would be sunny tomorrow. I really hope so! I took this picture because it looks boring and I connect that to the weather today. The others just stayed inside and did indoor stuff. Like playing games, watching TV, reading a book or two, relax and etc. All I did was sleep, eat and remix some piece of music.

So Riga was fun but we wanted to continue partying so one of my friends has a beach house in Göteborg near the coast. So we gathered up more people (mostly girls) and went off to Göteborg and we arrived just in time for dinner. Now normally you use meat products to have a BBQ, but we decided use fish instead meat. It was really delicious, normally I don’t like cooked fish but I the hunger didn’t make me care. After that wonderful dinner we relaxed and enjoyed the sun until it was cool and dark, because that’s when the party starts again.

I and ten of my friends wanted to have some fun and one of them came up with the idea that we should take boat trip to Riga. All of us thought that was a great idea, cheap trip and cheap alcohol, nice!
So we drank and partied almost the whole day. When we got off at Riga I found this building which I found it interesting. The structure was abstract; you can see that it’s a bit crooked. Normally when I think about the word “abstract” then I only think about the painting art. But I guess there are buildings that actually were built in an abstract way.

All at once

I met with a friend today. The goal was to watch the blooming of the cherry blossoms in KungstrĂ€dgĂ„rden and take some good photos. Naturally, that didn’t happen. What DID happen was some good weather, then some colder weather and then some rain drops. And no cherry blossoms what so ever. We did meet some lovely you girls though and saw some gorgeous kimonos.

I didn’t feel that spring was here, but that it was on its way.

Date: May 6

Place: Stockholm city

The sun shone bright today. I took a walk in to town with a friend to get some fabric. Somehow, the sun made me realize that spring is actually here. When I went to satisfy my sugar need, I was torn between ice cream and chocolate. That is some indication as to how good the weather was!

Date: May 10

Place: At home

I have a cold today. I feel like crap but I run out early anyway because I want to be on a bus. The plan is that the bus will take me to the post office and there I will pick up one big and very wanted package. Despite my sore throat, I talk to the nice mail lady, only to be told that my package is not there.

Luckily, I eventually got my package and loved it for about 30 minutes before I fell back into feverish sleep. Spring is out there, but I’m to sick to bother with it.

Date: May 18

Place: Outside my home

I bought an ice cream today. It melted before I had a chance to eat the whole thing. My boyfriend and I then proceeded to make potato salad. Both ice cream and potato salad are signs of spring, and summer, to me and I thoroughly enjoyed them both.

Date: May 19

Place: At my way home from school

It was hot out today, even tough it was cloudy. It was actually so hot that my ice cream melted indoors! That gave me more a feeling of summer than spring, but since it is still May, it counts.

The real feeling of spring hit me on my way home from the bus stop. I saw the edge of the pavement and LEPT on top of it. Any friend of mine can tell you that I don’t leap over things normally. I blame it on the heat.

Late spring

May 19, 2010

Name: Sanna Persson

Date: May 18 2010

Place: Next to my window

Sitter here, looking out the window, I feel kind of relaxed. The sun is shining like crazy. It’s warm enough to eat ice cream outside and not freeze. Though I only had a couple of minutes before the sun melted my poor little ice cream away. But that is some how what spring is to me. Ice cream melting, winter coats being to hot to wear and summer time just around the corner. And of course the flu making you miss the wonderful weather and all the great parties.

Apart from the warmer weather, spring to me is light. I love the fact that I can start taking photos again, without having to find every single lamp in the house to illuminate the object of my focus. Spring enables me to whip out my camera and just go for it.

A late interview

May 19, 2010

Interviewer: Sanna Persson

Interviewee: Rickard Sjögren

Date: May 18, 2010

Place: At our home

Tell me, what are some typical signs of spring for you?

Well, the most obvious would be when the snow melts away. Other than that, I guess it is when things start to spire and grow. Though, according to the famous song, that doesn’t mean that spring has arrived. Another sure sign of spring to me is when the sun actually warms you up.

Do you get spring feelings when you see that flowers and stuff are starting to pop up?

A couple of days ago I was out walking and noticed this green area. It had a big patch of grass totally covered in flowers. It hit me then how much colour actually was in the spring. That never happens during any other period of the year.

Are you affected in any other way by the spring colours?

No, but I think many people do feel happier and such, but I don’t feel anything out of the ordinary.

So, no emotional response, how about a habitual one?

I wear less clothes as the warmth progresses and don’t feel as iffy about going outside. My crazy friends want me to join them on the beach just because the temperature has risen some. The sun being out longer makes me a bit more prone to stay up longer too.

Mid-crit presentation

May 18, 2010

2010-05-12

Today was the big day. Or at least the day of the first presentations. But that’s kind of a big day. We finished our beautiful rainforest picture yesterday evening late at night. After some sleep and coffee we were ready to use Eva’s nice presentation and show everyone our process. All the presentations were great and we learned some nice tricks on how not to embarass ourself, which is always welcome. Today after the weekend we realized that it is just like ten hours left until we should be finished. Or less than that. So acctually we don’t have time to blog now, there are more important things to do.

Making a forest

May 11, 2010

2010-05-11

Today we started working on the film about palm-oil, and the first step was to draw the forest, a very time-consuming job but step by step it’s growing. And it’s looking great. The group is finally focused on at least one clear goal, jippie. It sucked being inside all day in a room without any windows, because it was smashing sunshine outside, we worked all day in that dark room, but the film is going to be awesome, cute and cuddly for starters, but with a sour aftertaste.

We now have the coffee and cups from from Arvid Nordquist. 16 packeges and 800 cups. The coffee should be enough to make 1000 cups, but as we all know it’s usually a little less than that, so 800 cups should be perfect!

Work work

May 11, 2010

Monday 2010-05-10

Today we worked with the presentation for wednesday, beautiful pictures and kick ass text now hopefully we will not forget what to say. Real fancy if you ask us, props to Eva and Philip. We also perfected the picture storyboard and started planning the creation of the film, by getting supplies, because we are going to have the camera hanging from the roof. It’s real cool, see ya!

Are you aware of who makes your coffee?

Parents send their children away to work when they are 4 years old.

250 million children between the ages 4-14 all over the world are put to work.

From the age of 4 children are working 16 hours a day.

70% of these children have dangerous lines of work

Children are sold so that families benefit from what could be viewed as a “loan”

The children are promised a good salary and working conditions, but are rather taken advantage of under extremely awful circumstances

An example is children working out in the fields in the blazing sun without water or permission to rest.

All of this to put food on their families tables, as well as coffee in your breakfeast cup.

Project Child Labor
Who is behind this project with child labor in focus?
We are 12 students from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.
Throughout a period of 4 weeks we have worked very hard with this project, putting together a campaign to open up peoples eyes about the truth behind their coffee.
Our mission is to wake up Stockholm, where simple changes such as choosing Fairtrade marked coffee can change the lives of some children.

What is child labor?

Children under the legal working age are put to work everyday. This usually means no time for school or free time for recreational activities.

They are the source of income for their family, and provide food and other essential needs.

The childrens work causes different types of dangers to their mental, physical, and social health.

It also deprives them of their childhood, development, and education.

Why does child labor exist?

Poverty

The parents are illiterate

Social apathy

Ignorance

Lack of education and knowledge of anything beyond their every day life

The explotation from cheap and unorganized companies

Culture and family traditions

The dangerous effects of putting a child to work

Severe muscle pains and stretches

Countless of cuts to their skin

Concussions, bruises, scratches due to falling or bumping into large machines and objects

Burn marks

Broken bones

There are physical as well as

psychic side effects such as:

Deprived childhood

Preventet developement

No room for an academic education

Still uplifted by the Skansen visit we kickstarted the day by deciding to continue both the Jag project and the awareness video. Even tough we are most hyped on making the politicans aware of the palm-oil problem and are working on a picture storyboard  for it, hopefully we will be able to do some filming on monday. Child labor in the coffee industry, how does that directly affect you as a student at KTH?

Do you drink coffee on a regular basis, and are you aware of who makes your coffee?

Follow our blog for our campaign “Wake up Stockholm”, where we spread the word to our fellow KTH-comrades by giving out free Fairtrade-marked coffee and at the same time the brochure that tells the truth about the huge coffee market.

Date: Wednesday

Location: Skansen

We met up with zoolgists Boel och Lars-Erik who love animals and nature. They spoke about there involvment with WWF and a antibushmeat campaign. But the project that Lars-Erik was most “fire and flames” about was a proposition from the EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) to the EU about making it mandatory for food producers to write out on the package if it contains palm oil. We thought it would be a great idea to make a video kind of like the: REDD: As part of the solution video we posted on this blog earlier, because politicans can’t read that well. The animals also inspired us and filled us with creative energy, and made us realise even more that these fantastic creatures must be saved and allowed to live in their natural habitat.

Rainforest grupo

Today we came to a slow start in the morning with a couple of calls and some information seeking. But after lunch we did a brainstorm and we came up with at least one great idea. We are gonna take a trademark that is assosiated with a animal for example Puma, “Save the Puma from extinction” or car manufacurer Jaguar, “Buy a Jaguar, save a Jaguar” and then we are gonna create a campaign for them. And were hopeful that it’s going to be a great success.Tomorrow we are going to Skansen to photograph fantastic little animals and speak to animalcare experts. See you!

Below: Loads of brainstormed ideas.

After the weekend we should had been packed up with energy, and happy as c hildren going to Willy Wonkas factory. But it was monday and most of us had partied all weekend, so it went slow in the beginning, which was more or less frustrating. But we got things done, and we called some calls and got a short interview with Anders from Greenpeace, who gave us some ideas, we could check out the furniture biz for example. Which we are doing right now.  Today we will do more calling and thinking and hopefully get things cooking. So let’s get things COOKING!!!

Video about deforestation that was screened to most of our world leaders in 2009, no forests at all in 2100 is quite a shocker.

PGM work together with companies of all kinds, producing gear such as clothing and office supplies with the Fairtrade brand, thus giving a good name to the company. This is a way that shows that the companies are working on being ethical.

They work with PR of all kinds, from campaigns to just putting forth products.

“LĂ€nkarna i RĂ€ttvisemĂ€rkts handelskedja

Food Waste Solutions

April 29, 2010

http://foodwastesolutions.wordpress.com/

Heya! Check out our blog and follow our project to make people aware of how much food we are currently wasting around the word. We’ll also try to find one or more solutions to this problem and see if there is something we can do to make a difference.

In Sweden we are throwing away 100kg of food per person a year. In the UK a third of the food bought ends up thrown away. In the US 40% of all food produced ends up in a dumpster instead of some ones belly. In Hong Kong 3300 ton of food is thrown away every day! This is just some of the facts we’ve stumbled over after just a couple of days of research. It’s really an eye opener, right?

// Food Waste Solution Team

The rainforest group is working in a never ending down and sometimes upwards spiral. We got inspired by this (in a way) cool searchengine  (www.ecosia.org) that claims that for every search 2 squaremetres of rainforest is being bought. Inspirational if it’s true, aaaah!

Of course we had a “dip” in our motivation before lunch, but after lunch we conferenced with Felipe and Peter and got motivated to continue our search for Amazon imformation and perhaps a bit of glory. Henning and company ran to Stureplan to see a Greenpeace activist that has chained himself to a hotel to protest against Vattenfall being douches. Eva contacted let her phone work and arranged a telephone interview with a greenpeace amazon expert, the WWF guy who knew something about the amazon was out, but fear not, we will be back! And me and the Joel googled/ecosiad the net and called NaturvĂ„rdsverket who hooked us up with deforestation experts (www.focali.se). Se ya tomorrow!

. But not in the middle of the frickin’ night!!  I had problems going to sleep last night and the crazy chirping at 02:00 didn’t help. Last time I looked at the clock it was 05:00
 Argh, stupid birds!

(I tried to take a picture of the small bastards but they wouldn’t show them self when I had the camera ready, so I drew a picture of what they probably look like.)

Spring break, or well almost every break, means work for some of use. I’ve been working extra at my work  Matinique/Cottonfield in Åhlens City during my spring break. In the picture there are different colored chinos. This is a great example of what happens in the world of fashion during spring…

Taking the dogs for a walk is something that has to be done every day of the year. During the winter most people would rather do something else because of the cold. But when spring comes something changes, suddenly going out with the dogs becomes a very enjoyable and relaxing thing to do after, specially after  a long and cold cold winter.

Well, we’re not the only ones who notices that the spring is here. Dogs are always sniffing on everything they see, but when spring comes you can really see them going bananas smelling on EVERY single thing you can see plus much more…

Some days it doesn’t matter how nice the weather is, you just don’t wanna or can’t go outside. Especially after one heck of a birthday party

I don’t see myself as a car guy. Sure, I think a car can be a real piece of art and I dream of one day owning an Aston Martin but I’m far from being a car guy or petrol head as they sometimes are called. But I still have to say that it’s just something magical about driving along down the freeway, with a great rock tune playing on the stereo and the sun shining in a clear blue sky. The combination seems quite simple but all the small pieces must work for you to be able to experience the magic that I’m talking about. And on our way back from SmĂ„land all the pieces fit perfectly!

At the end of spring break, after my indoor-game-marathon, my girlfriend and I went down to visit my parents in Eksjö, SmĂ„land.  We were invited to my friend’s daughter’s (Izabelle) baptism. This was quite a special occasion for me and my buddies because this was the first event of its kind. We have now reached that age when people around us are building families; it really makes you think
Anyhow, after the baptism a friend of mine happened to mention to my girlfriend that they had newborn lambs and kittens at his parents place so of course we had to swing by and look at them.  It sure was worth the while though they where adorable. Seeing these newborns also spawned thoughts, thoughts about life and the beauty of it. Even though this was a rainy and cold day the events it held warmed our hearts.

Through a friend at work I managed to offer my help to “Fysikalen Pompeji – eller en ohygglig överraskning”, which is a show put together by the physics students. My friend did the lighting for the show and my brother ran the light board and did the programming, I myself mostly wandered around pointing at stuff with a flashlight pretending to know stuff. However with half an hour to the first show with everyone on the final rush to get everything ready the customary fire alarm goes off. So there we are, the whole crew and all the actors standing outside with costumes and makeup on, freezing to death waiting for someone to sort out the alarm. Oh did I mention it was snowing? Finally we did get back in though and the show turned out awesome to say the least.

With the whole trunk full of food and a variety of different (strange) instruments including at least four drums we went to my friend’s summer house to have an awesome weekend. I wake up the first morning with a soar throat and berely able to talk. I spent the rest of the day in another room with a fever drinking honey with some tea in. Good times. Go spring!

Parking should be easier when the snow is gone and you are able to see the lines properly. Apperently that is not the case for everyone.

I went and saw a show by some friends in a band called Imber today. Same band that I was on tour with in early march. When we left Stockholm insanely early on that wednesday the snow lay thick and with more coming, when we arrived in Malmö the sun was shining and the ground was bare. Walking around on gravel free asphalt for the first time in months and just going to different cities playing metal as loud as possible gave a good first taste of the coming spring. I didn’t feel the complete spring sensation down in skĂ„ne though. I guess it smells different down there.

I try very hard not to complain about my work, because it can hardly be called working. But when the outside temperature is somewhere below zero the entrance hall of the opera house gets really cold, and I mean really cold. Especially when the guests try to be nice to each other by holding the doors open for one another. Trying to stand and be nice to people and try to handle their tickets in an orderly fashion becomes quite a challenge when your hands stop responding to orders. Today that feeling was long gone with the entrance hall basking in sunlight. I prefer it that way.

– Ziggy Marley Beach in Hawaii

I’m sitting in the car and just watching the endless horizone while the wind is blowing dreads in front of my sunglasses. It’s so hot but I’m used to that now. I’m holding my hand outside the window and feel the strong wind, my hand gets chilled by it. It is so beatiful here. It feels so calm and I feel so free. But I don’t wish the time to be like this every day, I just want this moment to continue right now, two more minutes more. The song goes on and Victor nods his head to beat, Manuella has just woke up and is moaning about the pharmacy. But I’m still in my moment, with the free wind, the beautiful colors from the nature along the road. I just can’t believe that it is january. Victors starts explaining about the neighborhood and says:” There we have water, there some plants and to the right we have.. ehm.. cactus”. We start laughing and I just hope that the spring has arrive earlier this year i Stockholm.

Jeez…I was really hungover today, but it was worth it. At the party last night I met a bunch of friends I used to see a lot in elementary school which was really fun.

The worst part about Sundays is that it takes ages to get home from my girlfriend with public transportation. I missed the train which resulted in a long walk and 30 minutes of waiting for another train, but at least I got to see these beautiful flowers!

For me the ocean and the Swedish arcipelago has since I was a little boy been a solid source for summer memories. This year is not going to be any different and a sign of that is that today me and my father uncovered the boat from it’s winter “fur”. It was really a nice father and son day, and real precious to me because I don’t live at home with my parents. I thought that it’s going to be a kick ass summer, and when I think about it my parents aren’t that bad after all, actually they are kick ass too.

I dream that my future children will think that I’m a kick ass father, like my old man. And I wish that everbody will enjoy their summer and spring wherever and whatever they are and do. XOXO
